To give you a brief background on Kyle, he grew up in Lansing, Michigan and studied classical percussion under Michigan State head of percussion, Mark Johnson. In 1987 he moved to Chicago and soon after joined the very popular band, Survivor, with founding members Jim Peterik and Frank Sullivan. Kyle recorded a “Best Of” album with them. This opportunity gave Kyle both recording and touring skills needed to be a great drummer. Kyle then taught at the Bloom School of Jazz in Chicago and added to his skills the knack for performing on countless numbers of jingles on national radio and TV spots including spots for McDonald's, Toys R Us and Kellogg's. His varied abilities to work on different projects enabled him to record a Christian album on the late Rich Mullen's last project. He recorded with Toby Meyers and Andy York from John Mellencamp's band and was asked to fill in for John's steady drummer, Kenny Aronoff, and tour with John at a time when Kenny was touring with Bob Seger. Mike Wanchek, also with Mellencamp, recommended Kyle to play drums with Country star, Deana Carter. Kyle has been Deana's steady drummer since 1999 and has appeared on Jay Leno, David Letterman, Wayne Brady, The View, and the 1999 Farm Aid Concert. In 2000 Kyle played with alt-country artist Robbie Fulks performing on Conan O'Brien. This same year, Kyle began playing drums for Dennis DeYoung, lead singer and songwriter from the popular 70's /80's band Styx. Currently, Kyle is touring with Dennis with a full band and fifty piece orchestra conducted by Manheim Steamroller's, Arnie Roth. From this tour emerged a double live CD recorded at the Chicago Theatre as well as a PBS Soundstage special on DVD. |

Another project of Kyle's was for a movie released February 2005 called Uncle Nino, as he did all the drum work for the entire movie. Also in 2005, Kyle recorded a CD with a new band, Blanc Faces, on Frontiers Records, which was released in Europe and Japan in July 2005, and in May of 2005, Kyle was hired by George Michael to perform on Oprah. Kyle has been fortunate to be able to be the sole drummer for both Dennis and Deana as their tour schedule allows him this opportunity. His endorsements include Vic Firth and Attack (for drumheads). In April 2005, Kyle was interviewed by the very famous writer, Robyn Flans, for an article in Modern Drummer magazine (October 2005 issue). This year (2007) Kyle is recording some new songs with Dennis DeYoung, as well as touring with Dennis and Glen Burtnik. He just finished (end of 2006), a 22 tour date with Deana Carter and will continue touring and recording with Deana and Dennis in 2007. Kyle is a solid, energetic and entertaining drummer whose knowledge and background have made him one of the better drummers playing today. He's also a great guy who brings out the “best” in those he plays with, and strives to always improve his performances. Besides drumming he's an avid skydiver always willing to play and live on the edge. |
